THE MANIFESTO. THE EVOLUTION OF THE BLACK OP ERA

THE MANIFESTO. THE EVOLUTION OF THE BLACK OPERA.

This really is a gorgeous document. It ends with the two declarative: “BE GREATER.” THE BLACK OPERA is certainly the most interesting, compelling, confounding and artistically vital piece of the huge library that is hip-hop music. LIBRETTO was the first time i became aware of TBO. And though it still soars a few miles over my head, it’s brilliant to experience. Sort of like what “Waiting for Godot” might look like to an inquisitive four year old.

TBO, i am that four year old. I am hooked. The manifesto notes that the covert days of the BLACK OP ERA are over, as the world enters the BLACK OP ERA II. Without masks, of course the secrecy will be gone. But will the drama? The manifesto is itself almost a call to free Black political prisoners housed in this country like calves for slaughter. I’m looking forward to listening to LEGEND HAS IT later on this day.

But now i am so intrigued by the Beauty of the Manifesto. And where it takes us next. I’m just sitting here staring at it. At how it is so well-centered, it has the beauty of a well-designed poem. The words have the power of poems.

What will TBO enlighten and puzzle us with next? I suppose since we cannot live the world in a day, i’ll have to wait along with the other mortals.
